Stephen Wade Auto Center hosts back-to-school supplies drive for Washington County students – St George News

CONTRIBUTED CONTENT – Just like every mechanic needs the right tools to repair and maintain your vehicle, kids need the right tools to be successful in school. With that in mind, the Stephen Wade family of dealers are assembling trucks of supplies for Washington County students, and they need your support to achieve their goal.

Stephen Wade Automotive Center knows that children are the future. When times get tough, the community is responsible for making sure every student is ready to succeed, said director of public relations Jamie Bahlmann. Until August 20, bring school supplies to any of the seven Stephen Wade dealerships in St. George.

“So many of our teachers pay for their supplies out of their own pockets,” she said. “It’s so important for us to support our students in our community and give them the opportunity to succeed.

All donated items will be delivered to Washington County schools for counselors to distribute as needed. For students whose families do not have the financial means to adequately prepare them for the upcoming school year, counselors may be their only resource for supplies. Make sure every child in Southern Utah returns to class with a full backpack and starts the school year with confidence.

Stop by any Stephen Wade dealership and help fill the showroom vehicles with supplies. The Washington County School District requests various classroom essentials, including the following:

  • Backpack.
  • Notebooks.
  • Books of compositions.
  • Records.
  • Pocket files.
  • 3 × 5 cards.
  • Pencils and erasers.
  • Mechanical pencils and lead packets.
  • Glue stick.
  • Pencils.
  • Highlighter pens.
  • Dry erase markers.
  • Black permanent markers.
  • Scissors (blunt end only).

“We will also buy supplies to put on the trucks,” Bahlmann said. “We would love to fill a truck at each dealership and drive seven trucks to the school district for our students.

Collecting school supplies is just one of the many community service programs Stephen Wade sponsors throughout the year. During the last holiday season, the group sponsored “wish trees” to bring together the necessities of at-risk and homeless youth in the area.

Additionally, the Stephen Wade Auto Center Group supports athletic, arts and science programs for youth, school sports teams, local school clubs and other organizations through the Kick4Cash and Shoot4Cash programs. They sponsor sporting events, concerts, festivals, medical programs, and nonprofit initiatives, including Washington County School District Foundation Classroom Grants.

“This is what we do, give back to the community that supports us,” Bahlmann said. “The people of southern Utah are the ones we really care about. ”
