Tata Motors presented its most anticipated concept car on Wednesday.Curve‘. The company unveiled the new electric SUV concept car saying that it has been designed for Indian roads with exhilarating performance and a futuristic concept. The company is ready to drive this new SUV within the next two years.
The Mumbai-based automotive major, introduced the electric SUV concept, aims to cater to consumers who seek individuality and design differentiation, with the new product.
The auto major plans to introduce the electric version of the coupe-style SUV first and then follow it with internal combustion engine trims.
In an interaction with PTI, Tata Motors General Manager of Passenger Vehicles Shailesh Chandra noted that the SUV segment is rapidly splitting into different sub-segments with a clear demand for differentiated products.
“It’s also becoming clear that SUV customers have an increased appetite for design differentiation. What we’re showcasing today is a coupe body style complete with SUV features,” he said.
He added that our goal here was to provide customers with a product option that is the perfect fusion of modern functionality and design.
With rugged SUV DNA at its heart and a plethora of next-era materials, features and interfaces, the company is confident this coupe concept will redefine mainstream SUV design.
Chandra, who also leads the company’s EV business, noted that the company has taken a three-step approach to introducing customers to progressively advanced electric products.
“So we have generation 1 products that we’ve released based on the ziptron architecture, leveraging the successful ICE vehicle platforms…these are primarily focused on removing barriers to adoption of electric vehicles,” he noted.
With the “Concept CURVV” SUV, the automotive major is now shifting to Generation 2 architecture, which will further improve the adoption of electric vehicles in India by overcoming the current hurdles.
“In Gen 1 models, we promised and delivered a certified range of over 250 km. In Gen 2 products, we are looking at a range of 400-500 km with a quick charge option,” Chandra added.
The product is also said to have technologically advanced features, including connected features for seamless connection with the outside world.
“Therefore, we are strengthening the key pillars of range, performance and technology while maintaining safety and reliability. With this SUV concept, we are taking another important step to make electric vehicles more ambitious,” Chandra said.
Tata Motors, which saw 353% growth in electric vehicle sales last fiscal year compared to 2020-21, noted that the Generation 2 electric vehicle architecture will be advanced, flexible and capable of offering options. multiple powertrains.
“The Concept CURVV, in its production version, will offer customers unprecedented versatility of use… It will be adapted to the busy life of city dwellers who appreciate and expect faster charging times, interactive and intuitive interfaces, responses, and provide comfort not only in their daily lives, but also in their cars,” he noted.
The company currently sells three electric models – Nexon EV, Tigor EV and Xpres-T EV – in the domestic market.
